19-year-old driver hits and kills female bicyclist

On Behalf of | Nov 28, 2017 | Firm News, Personal Injury |

Many people assume that car accidents only occur between vehicles. However, many of these incidents involve pedestrians (people who are not vehicle occupants). Pedestrians are more likely to suffer life-threatening injuries and die after being struck by motor vehicles. Victims who lose their lives and leave behind families and loved ones must cope with the aftermath.

Road accident results in fatality

A recent car accident claimed the life of a 31-year-old female Springfield pedestrian on an early Friday morning. The female victim is the fifth pedestrian to be killed out of 15 fatalities that have occurred in the area. She was walking her bicycle when she was struck by a vehicle. The driver of the pickup was a 19-year old male who was not intoxicated at the time of the crash, according to law enforcement investigation reports. The female victim was alive at the time of the crash and had to be transported to a nearby Springfield hospital for treatment of life-threatening wounds that she later succumbed too. The accident happened on Glenstone Avenue, near Cherry. It is not known if the driver had any injuries. No further details about the incident are available at this time.

Motorists have an obligation to watch for pedestrians and yield the right-of-way to them. Pedestrians should always use caution, good observation skills and common sense when walking in areas where there is traffic. When either type of individual makes mistakes or neglects their responsibilities, the results are often catastrophic and heart wrenching for everyone involved.
