Gaining the maximum value from a workers’ compensation claim

For many members of the Missouri workforce, staying safe while on the job is a primary priority. However, there are times when unforeseen hazards, carelessness, lapses in judgment and even miscommunication can result in the serious injury or death of a worker. Fortunately, there are protections like workers’ compensation, to provide assistance to injured workers as they take time off to recover, rehabilitate and re acclimate to the workforce.

When injured workers begin filing a workers’ compensation claim, they can benefit greatly from having a basic knowledge of certain actions that can help them receive the maximum value of their policy. According to Monster, there is some standard information that everyone should understand about how workers’ compensation works. This includes the following:

  • They should always verify that the medical provider they wish to see is in network with their employer’s workers’ compensation policy.
  • They should never arrive at work under the influence, which can compromise their payout if they are found at fault.
  • They should disclose in detail, what happened that caused their injuries and be clear that the accident occurred on the premises of their job.
  • They should take advantage of opportunities to learn about their employer’s workers’ compensation policy through seminars, trainings and educational courses provided by their employer.
  • They should be proactive about disclosing every injury that they experience at work, even if it does not seem serious at the time it happens.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration reported that in the year 2015, a total of 4,836 workers were killed on the job.
