If you work in construction in Missouri, chances are you are well aware that you face significantly more dangers because of the risks that are unique to your job and industry. In comparison with other occupations, construction work can be some of the most dangerous if you are not cautious and vigilant about your safety. You can protect yourself and will benefit greatly from taking advantage of training provided by your company, as well as closely adhering to all protocols and rules that have been established to create a safe environment for you and your coworkers.

According to Occupational Safety & Health Administration, the top four most common risks that you face each day as a construction worker include the following:

  • Being struck by debris, equipment or other hazards
  • Falling from scaffolding or other high areas
  • Electrocution if you come into contact with live electricity
  • Becoming trapped between improperly secured trenches

Fortunately, there are precautions you can take to reduce your chances of being the victim of one of the dangers mentioned above. When working at height, personal safety equipment should always be worn. When working with or near electricity, be sure you understand the proper distance you should maintain between yourself and the live wires. If you are working around trenches, they should be properly shored or benched to provide stability. If you are working on a construction site where heavy objects are being moved, wear visible clothing and never stand beneath an area where an object is being moved.
